The Hawk, Andre Dawson, finally has made it into the Hall of Fame.  His long road to Cooperstown is long overdue and I have said for years that this guy flew under the radar and deserves his time in the spotlight.  He started his career with the Expos and played many years there before he had his Expos jersey retired.

After putting up some good numbers up in Montreal, Dawson became a Chicago Cub and that is where most people remember him playing since the Cubs are always one of the favorite teams of fans.  He had power and could hit for  a decent average too.

He hit a good amount of home runs and in a day where there were not as many power hitters he did extremely well.  He was often the focal point of the offense and pitchers often pitched around him if they could.

The Hawk was a humble and hard working ball player that was also an excellent fielder.  He could snag the ball on a line drive or use his speed to track it down, and pitchers loved having him backing them up.

Andre Dawson took a long time to get into the Hall from his first date of eligibility.  It was not because he was not a great player, but his stats were good all across the board, but never amazing in any one category. He was a bit short of 500 home runs and did not hit above 300 for a lifetime average. Each of those things makes it much easier to get to Cooperstown.

If you are looking to wear a Andre Dawson jersey, be sure to get a Cubs jersey, as this is the one he wanted to be put into the Hall of Fame, but instead he has to use the Expos jersey.  Either way, he is still deserving.
