Jose Reyes Now A Miami Marlin!

After signing a huge 100 million dollar plus deal, you will be seeing a Jose Reyes jersey in South Beach.   Rumor has it Albert you know who is thinking about going there too.  Another dream team perhaps?  Only time will tell.

Reyes is one of the fastest guys in baseball still and can do more than run.  He hits for a great average and has enough power to worry the defense.  He is a nightmare on the base paths and could steal over 100 bases a year for the rest of his life if he really wanted too.

The Marlins have a history of building up some great teams to win a World Series, then kinda laying low for a few years. Could this be another run to the top or is it just another player to be signed.

Early in his career he was more of an average hitter with great speed, but he has evolved to one of the best hitting shortstops in the game today.  His defense keeps getting better as well.

The Marlins should really benefit from the increased ticket and jerseys that they will be selling down in Miami, and they need to in order to make up for the huge contract they just gave him.

With this being the first big move in the off season, it will be very interesting to see what other moves are made in the world of baseball. Spring training is coming quicker than we can imagine so it will be a very short time until spring and baseball are right around the corner.

With a move like this, one now must wonder what the Mets will do to make up for the loss of one of the greatest players in the game today.  They should have some free money now, so I am sure they will make a move.

The Best Baseball Stores

With spring right around the corner it is going to be time to start looking at buying your spring training gear for you or your kids.  While there are many places to get baseball gear, not many people know which are the best baseball stores to shop at.

There are a few key things to remember when buying equipment that can save you money in the long run.

You want to shop early in the season when the selection is best. Also, be sure to check for coupons online or in the weekly paper. This can add up to many savings that you would not think of.

Also, check discount sources like the entertainment book and other clubs that can help you save money.

I do have my personal favorites though, and rank the following as my top baseball stores.

1. Dicks Sporting Goods – They seem to have anything you need here and the staff actually are useful in helping you make the right decision. From batting gloves, bats, catchers gear, softball items, they have it all at Dicks. There are always specials here to so be sure to check often and save yourself some money.

2. Target – Yes, I know the section is small, but they often have very good prices on the things they do carry. You may not get the most diverse selection, but if you need simple things it is the place to go. Especially if you have little kids that do not need the best and latest equipment.

3. Local Used Equipment Store – Everyone has one of these stores near them that specializes in selling used sporting goods. While they are not new, you can find the best deals here because it is always cheaper to buy used rather than new.

4. EBAY- You can find some great deals here, the only downside is that you cannot really try it out first. That is okay for mitts or gloves, but baseball bats are something you need to feel before you buy it.

All in all, there are many great baseball stores out there to get your stuff before the season begins.

Matt Garza Cubs

On the path to success again, the Chicago Cubs have just picked up Matt Garza.  This ace should be an immediate impact player that will help the Cubs to hopefully get a World Series victory.  It has been over 100 years, I think they are due at least one.

Garza is a top notch pitcher that rarely gets shelled and pitches deep into games. The Chicago Cubs fans are probably talking about it right now, as this could be the missing piece they need to get back into contention.

They did have to trade a bunch of their prospects, but hey let us try to win one now, we have waited long enough as a Cubbies fan.

They had solid batting last year with Ramirez and Soriano, but have to find more consistent hitting in the clutch to help them produce a few more runs. Overall though, they have enough offense to be very competitive.

On the other side, their pitching struggled quite a bit. Beside for Dempster, they really did not have a good staff and the bullpen showed some weaknesses too. Bring Matt Garza on should not only make the staff deeper, maybe the young guys can learn from him the process as well. Good pitching is contagious, and it could be a huge asset just to have him in the clubhouse. The Cubs need some positive attitudes around there and this can do nothing but help.  Fans will soon be trying to get a Matt Garza Cubs jersey as the season is only a few months away. They will still have to worry about signing some of their other talent, but you have to start somewhere.

The season is now looking up for the Cubs and their first goal needs to be winning the NL Central and then making a pennant run. Should be very fun to watch.
