Ricky Rubio To Minnesota TWolves

The 6’3” great ball handler from overseas is finally going to make his way to the NBA.  Joining the Minnesota Timberwolves for the 2011 NBA season, he will add a great passer to the Timberwolves post game with Kevin Love.  Minnesota was just not that good last year and with the presence of Rubio and a few new faces, they could maybe win 40 games or so this year.

While I am not saying they will be a playoff team, they should be at least competitive this year with the new talent on the court.  Ricky is not a scorer, so he will have to work on a little jumper to keep the defense honest.  Rondo was not a scorer at first either though, and he was able to adapt his game to what the other teams in the NBA gave him.

Both the Spanish and the #9 Minnesota Rubio jersey should be a top seller this fall, as he has many fans all over the world. Kevin Love is already a huge fan of his and both these guys could be All Stars for many years.

I am sure it will take him a while to adapt and he may not even start at first, but over a few years he should develop into a Rondo like guard that can score and pass as good as most.  Steve Nash was not a great passer at first, but became one, so either way guys can learn to do what they haven’t in the past.

Ricky Rubio’s numbers over in Spain were not that impressive, but do not let that fool you.  I can see him averaging 10 points and 10 assists a game here in the NBA.  Do not be surprised if he is a rookie of the year candidate as well, he can really play. Should be a fun 2011 – 2012 season in the league, granted they play at all.

Portland Trailblazers | Gerald Wallace

Just minutes before the NBA trade deadline, the Bobcats sent forward Gerald Wallace to the Portland Trailblazers for two future first round picks.  This does two things.

1.  It makes Portland really good right now and makes them able to knock anyone off on any given night in the West. Now, that may not happen in a series, but they are much closer to doing so now than before the deadline.

2. It gives Charlotte a few picks to rebuild. Even with Gerald Wallace, they just did not have enough firepower and defense to be more than an average team. They have come along way, but these picks could help them get over the top over the next few years.

Gerald Wallace bring explosive scoring and uses an all around attacking style of play to score at will. He can put 25 points a night down at almost any time. Sometimes he has an inconsistent jumper, but who does not these days.

He is a good defender and can also rebound well.  Just a good athlete in general he should fit well in the Portland offense. Soon, many will be wanting an Gerald Wallace Portland jersey, just like all these other trades that just happened, it creates an intense demand for the new jerseys once players reach their new teams.

Wallace can also use is long 6’7” frame to create a strong presence of an off the ball shot blocker and create havoc for opposing offenses. Not that he is the next Mutombo or anything, but he is very good and sneaky at sending the ball back at you.

Wallace’s Trailblazers should now have all the teams talking in the West about how dangerous the team in red and black can be. It always was tough to play away at Portland and getting Wallace on the roster makes it no easier. Cannot wait until the playoffs.

Jeff Green Goes To Boston

In a rush of last minute trades, the Boston Celtics once again made a small, but very important move that improves their team and puts them in position to make another deep playoff run in the Eastern Conference. However, their goal is always the NBA crown and nothing less will make them satisfied.

Jeff Green is a good scorer and rebounder and did very well in a supporting cast to Kevin Durant.  He will fill a similar role with the Boston Celtics and will probably have to score even less, but play very tough defense. Boston is known for their defense and will have him playing hard every minute of the game. Pierce and KG will tolerate nothing less.

The 6’9” power forward will look good in green and many people will probably want to get a Jeff Green Celtics jersey to show their support. Boston fans are great and love to support all their players. They are up there with the most loyal fans in the country.

Green should be a nice fit to the system where he can add opportune scoring and high percentage shots to the game plan. He will also be able to give Garnett and Pierce some minutes on the bench which each of them can use.

Rondo will do his best to get Green some good looks and while people will miss Perkins, I think they will be surprised about how good J. Green really is. He kind of went unnoticed out in OKC but it will be very different now in a Boston uniform.

No matter who they seem to plug in, the Celtics seem to find a way to blend together and play great team basketball. It is  a culture and way of doing things there and I think this trade does nothing but help them toward the goal of getting another ring.
