The Denver Nuggets are playing great basketball right now and Carmelo Anthony could be on the way to an MVP type season if he can continue to lead them to a deep playoff run. In the Western Conference they will face stiff competition from the Lakers and Jazz, amongst others. The Nuggets play an up and down the court style of up tempo offense, but can also play a solid half court game with Billups at the point guard and they can milk the shot clock down before getting the ball to Carmelo or Martin down low.
They are also improving defensively and Andersen, Bird Man, is one of the best shot blockers in the game today. JR Smith is a great 3 point shooter and one of the best 6th men when he comes off the bench. The key to their run in the playoffs will be getting stops on the defensive side of the ball when it matters most. The NBA is a league where you have to play some good D in order to win championships. I cannot remember a team that had bad defense ever winning a NBA ring.
Denver Nuggets team apparel is really popular right now. Nuggets jerseys are being sold at a rate not seen since the days of Mutombo back in the 90′s, since he was loved by all the fans. Their fans are gearing up for a possible title run and want to support their guys. I am not sure about Carmelo’s contract status but they need to keep him around if they want to be competitive for many years to come. Many times guys will leave for a big payday and Denver cannot afford to let that happen.
With the playoffs just around the corner it will be interesting to see how far Anthony can lead them in the race to a ring.
