This guy could do it all. Pass, run, scramble, and made the come from behind victory a work of art. While he was not the most accurate passer and had a few interceptions now and then, he was a true champion that ended his career with 2 Super Bowl victories. He played in a record 5 Super Bowls. The Denver Broncos have not been the same since he retired.
Back in the late 80s he led the broncos to a few super bowls where they got crushed. He had good teams, but did not have a overall team that could challenge the Giants, Redskins or 49ers. He still played strong and could win in the AFC,but could not get it done in the big one.
Later he had a great running game with Terrell Davis and won two Super Bowls with him and a great defense. He went out on top retiring after his second championship. Wearing a John Elway jersey shows that you appreciate the tough hard nosed player he was. Many said he was one of the most competitive players of his time.
After his retirement he was elected to the Hall of Fame on his first year of eligibility. He currently is staying active as he is a partial owner of many different business ventures.
Many people do not know that Elway wore a baseball jersey before playing in the NFL. He played a couple summers of minor league ball and also played baseball at Stanford. He had a rocket arm and could throw in the mid 90s.
Once drafted he refused to play for the Colts since they were awful. He said he would never wear their jersey so they traded him to the Broncos where he ended his career. Many think he is one of the toughest minded QB to play the game. He did much with little talent on some of his early teams.
He will go down as one of the best ever in my opinion.
