Wow. What a signing for the Brewers. They got former Royals ace and Cy Young Award winner Zack Greinke for a bunch of young prospects that will reduce the Royals payroll and help them build for the future. It is hard to blame KC for making the trade since he salary is a large portion of their total payroll each year.
The next few years did not look good either, so it was easy to see the writing on the wall. Major League Baseball is often dominated by the large market teams since the smaller ones just cannot pay enough to be competitive.
The Milwaukee Brewers are now a real contender in the National League and it will be interesting to see how well they do come April. They already had great hitting with Fielder and Braun, and now they have an ace pitcher to get the job done every 5 days. If they can just get some solid bullpen pitching, they should compete for at least the division crown. Do not forget about Weeks and Hart either, as those guys knocked over 25 home runs each last year too.
The Zack Greinke Brewers jersey will be on sale soon and will probably be on many people’s last Christmas list if they can get it out in time. The Brewers fans really support their team well and you will see on kinds of crazy shirts and hats up there. It really is a great place to watch a baseball game.
Pitching. Yes, this is where the problem lied. They did not have a guy have 15 wins and the closer position was not exactly the best either. They have young talent, but they have to come along some in order to help Greinke out in his first year as a Brewer. Also, he will have to get used to batting, since he did not have to do that in the AL, unless it was an inter-league game of course.
Will he win another Cy Young? Too early to tell, but this guy will be good.
