Toronto Blue Jays Adam Lind

Adam Lind – The Future?

The Toronto Blue Jays are one of the youngest teams in all of Major League Baseball. Their age however does not reflect the talent of their players including Vernon Wells, Shawn Marcum, and especially their new young gun #26 Adam Lind. Adam was born in Muncie, Indiana and would later attend South Alabama University.

After winning numerous awards in his two years at South Alabama, Lind was drafted in the 3rd round by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 2004 amateur draft. Lind has yet to play an inning for any other organization then the Toronto Blue Jays in his 6 year career, and plans to continue that trend after signing a contract extension through 2016.

Many people will be wearing his Lind jersey in the ball park now and he should help the Jays cope with the loss of Roy Halladay. That was a tough pill to swallow as his Cy Young talent was very much needed.

To further express the kind of success Lind saw last season look no further than this year’s fantasy baseball draft. Lind went undrafted in most Fantasy Leagues during the 2009-2010 season, but oh what a difference a year makes. During the 2010-2011 Fantasy baseball drafts Adam is an average third to fourth round pick in most traditional leagues.

Last season was undoubtedly the best in Lind’s young career receiving several votes for American League MVP, and finished near the top in several offensive statistical categories.

Adam success can be attributed to his hard work and dedication to the game on and off the field. If he is a name that if your not familiar with, you better get used to hearing #26 Adam Lind, of the Toronto Blue Jays for many years to come as he looks to continue his success in the major leagues.

Jacoby Ellsbury Red Sox

Jacoby Ellsbury is an outfielder for the Boston Red Sox, a team that features such superstars as Kevin Youkilis and David Ortiz. His Jersey number is #2 and many Sox fans own an Ellsbury jersey. He is most well known for his amazing speed on the base paths. He is the reigning stolen base champion of Major League Baseball, having stolen 70 bases in 2009, which is also a Red Sox single-season record. He also legged out 10 triples, most in the American League.

Ellsbury was drafted first by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays (as they were called at the time) in 2002, although he did not opt to sign with them. He then played his college years at Oregon State, where he was a PAC-10 player of the year in 2005, along with being an NCAA All-American.

Finally, after three years at Oregon State he was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in 2005, the organization he has been with for his entire professional career.  Most of his fans know he comes from a solid background and great college team that gave him the skills needed to be a great player in MLB.

Jacoby Ellsbury was born September 11, 1983. Native American by ethnicity, he is the first person of Navajo descent to reach the major leagues.
Aside from his speed, Ellsbury has a number of other gifts that make him a terrific player, one who will probably find his way to an All-Star game or two. While he doesn’t hit for power, he has a tremendous eye at the plate, and rarely strikes out.

And once he gets on base, he usually winds up on second. Though he takes odd routes to the ball sometimes in the field, he is never shy about diving or laying out to make a difficult catch. I think he will win quite a few gold gloves before his career is over. He may not be the next Mays or Kenny Lofton, but he plays the position very well.

Roy Halladay Cy Young Winner

Roy Halladay is probably one of the craftiest pitches I have seen since Greg Maddux.  I am a huge fan so I may be biased, but this guy is truly an amazing pitcher. He does not have overwhelming speed or the pure nasty curveball of some of the other pitchers in the league, but he just gets the job done day in and day out.

His fastball is probably in the mid nineties, which is fast enough, but no means the speed that guys like Verlander throw.

Halladay has put on both a Blue Jays and Phillies jersey in his career and just signed an extension to stay with Philadelphia.  The six time all star and Cy Young award winner is considered by some to be the best in the game today.  He throws right handed and is a highly technical pitcher with excellent pitch location.

I was looking for an old Roy Halladay jersey from the Blue Jays the other day and found one that was worn in a game by him.  This authentic jersey was more expensive than the other ones but I like the true look and feel of what the pros wear on game day.  Most replica jerseys just do not look all that great compared to the real thing.

Once the season starts I think Halladay and the Phillies will be a favorite in the National League to get back to the World Series. With Halladay putting on his jersey every five days that should give them a huge advantage over their competitors. Having an ace of his quality does not happen for every team in MLB.

As with any team, good pitching does not guarantee you success, but it sure makes it harder to fail.  Combined with Ryan Howard’s power and Rollins speed, the Phills should be able to score enough runs to win their fair share of games this season.
