Carl Crawford Is Awesome

Carl Crawford of the Tampa Bay Rays is a multi-talented athlete. He could have chosen any sport he wanted to play but he chose baseball. He attended Jefferson Davis High School in Houston, Texas and lettered in baseball, football and basketball. He actually turned down a scholarship offer from UCLA to play basketball. He also had a chance to play football at Tulsa, Nebraska, USC, Oklahoma and Florida. Originally signing to play football at Nebraska, he later chose baseball instead.

The number 13 Carl Crawford jersey for the Rays and is surrounded by some good talent. Some of that talent includes the likes of Evan Longoria, Carlos Pena, Ben Zobrist and B.J. Upton are all promising young stars that have the potential to lead the Rays back to the World Series again soon.

Crawford was drafted by the Rays in the second round right out of high school. It didn’t take him long to work his way through the minor leagues to get to the big leagues. He was drafted in 1999 and in 2002, at the age of 20 he played in 63 games for the Rays. He was one of more than 50 players to use pink bats for breast cancer awareness on Mothers Day in 2007.

Carl lead the league in stolen bases in 2003 and 2004 and placed third in 2005. In 2006 Crawford became only the eighth player in history to record 200 stolen bases before his 25th birthday. That same day he stole home for the first time in his career. In 2008 he became only the eighth player in history to get 1000 hits and steal 250 bases before the age of 27. And in 2009 he tied a record by stealing six bases in one game. He is fast and smart on the base paths and every pitcher is aware where he is at once he reaches base.

Since he plays down in Tampa he sometimes fly under the radar, but more and more people are realizing how much he means to  MLB and the Rays as the years go by.
