It has been a long time since the bash brothers of Canseco and McGwire were in Oakland leading them to the World Series, but the team has some young talent that is hoping to get them back to the American League Western Division champions that they were just a few years ago. Now, with the names of Jake Fox and Ryan Sweeney the A’s are trying to rebuild and compete in the AL West. One name you might remember is Ben Sheets, who is the ace of their staff and helps the younger pitchers find their way.
The offense of Oakland is led by Jack Cust and Sweeney and they other youthful players show promise too. It may be some time before they can score a bunch of runs and hit with the Yankees, but they have the talent to get there someday. To tell you the truth I really do not know much about this team and have only followed them for a few days this spring training. With so many young players it is hard to get a grasp on who will get the most playing time and which guys will break out of the pack and become real stars in Major League.
I can remember a few years back everyone wanting to own an Oakland jersey when they were playing New York just to hope the Yanks did not win. Many teams do not like how they spend so much money on their guys and other teams spend so little. That is a fact of life now in baseball and these teams have to deal with the fact they will not have the same star power and must develop young talent that can succeed early and often in order to play with the big payroll teams such as the Yanks and Sox.
