If you are wearing Ohio State gear this time of year chances are it is an Evan Turner jersey. He is currently one of the best players in the NCAA and is leading the Buckeyes to a possible Big Ten title. Turner is a great shooter and has the size to play down in the post too. He is averaging almost 20 points and 10 rebounds a game and is poised to be a top 5 draft pick in the 2010 NBA draft. Many think he could go second behind John Wall of Kentucky.
Turner is currently a junior and many think he will skip is last year at OSU and turn pro. There is really not much else for him to prove and he should go out while is stock is high. Many OSU fans will be disappointed but his jersey will probably be retired in Columbus one day soon.
Turner should be able to play either small forward or shooting guard in the NBA. At 6’7” he will give any one a tough match up when he suits it up on the hardwood. He kind of reminds me of a more physical Stephan Curry who played at Davidson.
Once draft day comes the Evan Turner jerseys will be selling like hot cakes for whatever team drafts him. New Jersey or Minnesota look awful right now and could land a top 3 pick and snag Evan. Besides for him and Wall I am not sure any other guys are really standing out now.
We will know more about the draft after each player works out for the scouts and we can see them on the floor and playing with other guys of similar skills. Often the college stars do not play as well when they face top talent that they are not used to going against.
As usual the NBA draft will be very exciting and since it is only two rounds all the picks will be good. In the NFL it takes so many hours that many people cannot stay focused and lose interest. I know I have a hard time following two full days of the draft.
Evan Turner was just drafted second by the Philadelphia 76ers and I bet the fans there have something to cheer about next year. Many people will be getting a Turner 76er jersey and I think he could even have a better NBA career than John Wall. A big shooting guard that can dribble will go along way in this league. Just look at Kobe.
