Nick Fairley Auburn Tigers | NFL Draft

Well, after winning a BCS Title at Auburn, it looks like Nick Fairley is headed to the NFL.  This impressive defensive lineman should be a lock for the top 5 in the 2011 NFL Draft.  Fairley led the Auburn Tigers defensive squad that was very impressive against the run for most of the year. They made big stops when it matter, especially in the BCS Title game.

He has the size and speed for a big man to cause havoc to quarterbacks in the NFL.  I would look for him to start from day 1 and be an immediate impact player just like Suh was with the Detroit Lions.

Along with Cam Newton, there should be some big expectations coming from Fairley, now matter who drafts him come April. But the truth is, whenever the Nick Fairley jersey is raised on that day, he will get many cheers…. and a huge contract to go along with it.  The top 10 picks make much of their money in guaranteed money, as well as, endorsement deals.  As long as he does not have a terrible NFL combine, he is a lock to be at least in the top 5.

Will Carolina take him first?  Will he slip a bit?  It is way to early to tell where Nick Fairley will get drafted, but he looks like he is almost a lock, barring injury of course, of being a very good pro. Weird things do happen, but many times linemen are drafted very high for a reason.

NFL Football is much different than college, but for linemen the basics are the same.  The game does not change a whole lot, only the players get a lot better. The other positions have a much longer learning curve in the NFL and many do not contribute much for the first few years. However, many expect the big guys to come in and start right away.

With the draft only 3 months or so away, we need to start thinking about it, even though the Super Bowl has not been played yet! Well, the Lions just snagged up Fairley. What a steal. He could have gone in the top 3.  Everyone now will want a Lions Fairley jersey, so order yours now.

NY Knicks Danilo Gallinari

In the 2010-11 NBA season, the New York Knicks are enjoying a resurgence, as the team is playing playoff caliber basketball. While the addition of free agent star Amr’e Stoudemire was huge, one significant addition from the 2008 season is starting small forward Danilo Gallinari. Gallinari was the Knick’s 1st round pick from 2008 NBA draft and the 6th pick overall.

Gallinari had a slow first year in the NBA, back on 2008, but has improved steadily and now is a key component to the Knicks current run of success. Gallinari is currently above the NBA average in scoring at 15.5 points per game and is eighth in the NBA in 3 point field goals made (56). However, while he makes a lot of shots from behind the arc, he takes a lot more of them. He isn’t even in the top 75 in 3 point shooting percentage, only coming in at 36.8 percent. So he makes a lot of them but misses a whole lot more.  This will change though as he becomes a more consistent shooter.

Unlike the majority of NBA players, Gallinari played no college ball. He was born in Sant’ Angelo Lodigiano, Italy. His father, Vittorio, also played in Italy and got his son involved at a young age with Danilo playing professional basketball since age 15.

Gallinari is a solid ball handler and known for very good dribbling skills. There are many new fans out there wearing a Danilo Gallinari jersey around NYC.   He really does have  a big following in this city.  His nickname amongst his friends is ‘Gallo’ which is Italian for ‘Rooster.’ The nickname has benefited him as, at age 22, he has his own endorsement deal with Reebok for his own sneaker called – the Rooster! He actually had the deal in place before being drafted.

It will be interesting to see how far the Knicks go this postseason.

T.J. Houshmandzadeh Signs With Ravens

T.J. Houshmandzadeh just was signed by the Baltimore Ravens.  This is a big move that puts him and Boldin on the same team with Flacco throwing him the ball.  I bet he cannot be happier at the moment to go to a contender.  Baltimore has a great defense and ever improving offense with Ray Rice moving the ball down the field.

The T.J. Houshmandzadeh Ravens jersey will be a rare item until they get them at the stadium.  It takes a while to produce new sports jerseys when a guy just gets with a team.  They have to buy up the stuff and get it to production so it takes  a bit of time. With only one week left before the season starts he will have to learn all the new plays and get used to a new offense.  I assume he is in game shape so it should only take a few weeks until he gets the plays down and starts to contribute.

The Ravens have really evolved and while they still have their swarming black and purple jerseys flying around the field, they now have a better offense and more balanced attack so their defense does not have to hold the team to 9 points to win anymore. Even though it still happens from time to time.

TJ should provide a good possession receiver for the Ravens and could break some deep plays. He may not have the break away speed he used to but he can still stretch the defense.  I think they should be the favorite to win their division and could possibly make a Superbowl run this year as well.  While there are some good teams in the AFC, the Ravens should be able to hold their own against any of them.

The season will start soon but it will be a long time before another champ is crowned.
